Sachi Hamai
Chief Executive Officer (retired)/ County of Los Angeles
Sachi A. Hamai was the Chief Executive Officer of Los Angeles County from December 2014 to August 2020 (Interim CEO December 2014-October 2015). She was responsible for managing the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the nation’s largest municipal government, including the oversight of Los Angeles County’s $36.1 billion budget. Her strong fiscal management led Los Angeles County to achieve the overall highest credit rating in its recorded history, including its most recent S&P Global Ratings increase to AAA, the highest possible credit rating available in the financial markets. Los Angeles County achieved a total of four credit upgrades under her leadership.
As CEO, she was instrumental in developing, implementing and advancing the Board of Supervisors’ key priorities. These include the unprecedented response to the region’s homeless crisis, streamlining access to health services, justice reform, child protection, immigrant rights protection and environmental monitoring and oversight.
A champion of transformative change within local government, Sachi successfully challenged L.A. County’s workforce of more than 112,000 employees to break down barriers, collaborate and innovate across a broad range of society’s most challenging issues.
In 2019, Sachi was named one of L.A.’s Top 500 most influential leaders for the fourth consecutive year by the Los Angeles Business Journal. In 2019, Sachi was honored by Innovate@UCLA as its unanimous choice to receive the 2019 Public Sector Executive Leadership Award. Sachi is also the 2018 winner of the Clarence A. Dykstra Award for Excellence in Government. Other professional recognition includes the Asian American Architects and Engineers Association’s 2017 Asian American Leadership Award and honors from the Asian American Employee Association and the Indian American Professional Association. In 2017, Sachi co-founded WomenLeadLAC as a forum for up-and-coming managers to network with L.A. County’s top executives. She served on the Board of the United Way and is currently a Board member of the U.S.-Japan Council. Sachi is serving as a Board member for the Smart Easy Pay, Inc. A property tax payments system that started with three Counties in California but has expanded to over 15 Counties, including several large urban Counties and continues its expansion to other States. She is also serving as a Board member for the National Association of Counties, Financial Services Corporation, which strategically invests its funds in other business lines that generate revenue for the Association and the Japan House Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization that strengthen ties between the United States and Japan through innovative educational programs in art, culture, science and technology.
Sachi is involved in various community events and continues to hike and run daily with her dog Oreo.

Herbert K. Hatanaka
Executive Director of Special Service for Groups, Inc
Dr. Herbert K. Hatanaka is the Executive Director of Special Service for Groups, Inc. SSG is a large non-profit, multi-service, multi-ethnic health and human service agency that has served the community since 1952. SSG is recognized as one of the most effective community-based providers in the areas of behavioral mental health, forensic services (justice involved), homelessness and a host of community development initiatives. With regard to the Asian Pacific Islander community SSG is one of the largest mental health and social service providers serving these communities in the nation.
Dr. Hatanaka and his colleagues are active vocal advocates for diversity, equity and inclusion at all levels of government and public service. As an organization of over 1200 employees SSG strives to reflect those principles throughout it leadership and management structure and workforce.

Lupita Sanchez Cornejo
Regional Vice President, External Affairs, AT&T California and Board Chair of Hollywood Chamber of Commerce
A highly respected leader and business strategist — both in her executive role and among the boards and communities she serves — Lupita possesses a strong record of successfully navigating a highly regulated industry by adapting to and facilitating generations of technology advancements and innovation that are accelerating the speed of business. Lupita Sanchez Cornejo serves as Regional Vice President of External Affairs for AT&T California, where she develops the overall strategic direction of the company’s corporate initiatives throughout the Greater Los Angeles region. Lupita is responsible for leading AT&T’s policy and stakeholder engagement strategy in the region, with a focus on advocating for policies that support innovation and industry growth. Lupita bring extensive strategic planning, business development, technology deployment and governance experience that leads to improved financial management and corporate performance; the ability to implement transformational change to address stakeholder needs; a high degree of transparency and accountability, excelling under pressure and in the face of adversity; perseverance, passion and a commitment to core values, executing through a social responsibility lens; and successfully hiring, managing, connecting, growing and delegating to winning teams.


Charles Joh
LAPD SWAT Team Officer (retired)
Charles Joh is the first Korean American officer who was selected to the elite ranks of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Special Weapons And Tactics. This team is the first group who “coined” the phrase SWAT and started the notion of an elite tactical team within a police department. It was formed in 1967 in response to the Texas tower shooting on a college campus in Texas and the ever increasing criminal violence throughout the city of Los Angeles.
Charles started his career as a high school teacher after college. After six years, He decided to pivot his efforts to give back to the community as a police officer instead. He worked a variety of assignments throughout his career before he applied to the elite SWAT team. He has been a trailblazer for Korean American officers to strive for previously unprecedented positions within the Los Angeles Police Department.
He has served 24 years with the Department with the last 12 years with the swat team before he retired to build his successful private training and security consulting company called Tricell USA. He now gives back to his community by training civilians and officers from all over the United States and abroad.
